Ricoh India Ltd., announced the launch of its new digital SLR camera-PENTAX KP. The D-SLR features an APS-C sized CMOS image sensor, supported by approximately 24.32 megapixels and sensitivity ranging up to ISO 819200. It is equipped with a 5-axis shake-reduction system, an electronically controlled shutter unit for super-high-speed shooting at 1/24000 second and an optical viewfinder with nearly 100% field of view. The Pentax KP is dustproof, weather-resistant and can endure temperatures as low as -10°C. It can also capture high-resolution Full HD movie clips in the H-264 recording format. It is equipped with a 3.0-inch LCD monitor with a vertical tilt function, a Real-time Scene Analysis System and a High-speed 27-point autofocus system with the SAFOX 11 module. The PENTAX KP provides a range of customisation features, such as a grip replacement system to personalise the camera's grip to accommodate the photographer's shooting style or a mounted lens. ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C38 recently launched the 712 kg Cartosat-2 Series Satellite along with 30 copassenger satellites from Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota. This event marked thirty ninth consecutively successful mission of PSLV. One of the 30 co-passenger satellites carried by PSLV-C38 was CE-SAT 1, a fifty-kilogram (110 lb) microsatellite built by Canon Electronics, Japan. Canon will use the spacecraft to demonstrate a high-resolution imaging system in orbit, with a ground resolution of up to one meter (3 feet). About 60% of components of the satellite are manufactured by Canon, and the company targets a 100% inhouse production in the near future. The company also plans to sell the satellites, related components and the image data collected by the CE-SAT 1. The small-size satellites are expected to be sold for 1 million yen (approximately).
Sumitomo Chemical Co. has developed a new technology which can reduce production costs of large-format OLED panels to a great extent. The company has developed a new chemical pigment material for manufacturing OLED panels that targets to cut the production cost to half of the current deposition method. The company plans to enter quantity production by 2019 and sell to panel manufacturers in and outside Japan, expecting reduction of prices for OLED TVs to expand the market. The current deposition method requires expensive equipment and lots of the chemical pigment materials are wasted. The light-emitting elements of red, green and blue are supplied by Idemitsu Kosan Co. of Japan, Merck from Germany, and so on. The new printing method can reduce production costs because it requires less manufacturing processes than the deposition method but has a drawback of difficulty of coating light-emitting pigment evenly on the panel plate, which becomes more difficult when the panel sizes get larger. The new pigment that Sumitomo Chemical has developed is expected to reduce colouring of the light-emitting pigments on to the panel. Sumitomo Chemical said it has developed new manufacturing equipment for the printing method. To develop the new pigments, the company has cooperated with foreign panel makers and JOLED, which was established by integrating the OLED business division of Sony and Panasonic in 2015. JOLED plans to develop 21.6-inch display for medical use by using the new OELD panel produced in the printing method and market this autumn.
